Saif

Overall length 87cm

Blade length 75cm

Date: Early 19th Century

Origin: India

A Rajasthani single-edged Saif (straight) sword with a wootz blade and hilt. The last 10cm is doubled-edged. Included is an image of a close up of the blade (with slightly enhanced contrast) to provide an example of the wootz pattern. Similar to other pieces on www.shastaragar.com this item has not been tampered to force the visibility of the wootz pattern; in some cases such treatment affects the blade's integrity and makes it more susceptible to rust. A phenomenal weapon with great dexterity typically utilised with the higher fighting forms of Sanatan Shastar Vidiya. The blade is superbly sharp and there is no movement. The sword comes with a newly made wooden scabbard covered in black leather. A rare piece especially given the high quality metals used for the blade and hilt.
