Tulwar Sword
Overall length: 84.5cm
Blade length: 73cm
Width of blade at base: 4.6mm
Date: Early 19th Century
Origin: India
A beautiful Tulwar sword designed for fast cut and thrust strikes. The well-made hilt once possessed a finger guard and is of Punjabi style.
The blade has an armoury inventory mark, typical of very fighting high-end swords. The blade is most likely wootz steel, however it has not been etched. The edge is very sharp and clean. The spine is strong and sturdy.
The blade is full length and has not been shaved down nor tampered with; there is very minor surface pitting towards the tip of the blade. The last 10cm of the blade possesses a "false edge" designed for reverse cuts. The hilt appears to show indications of watering (wootz) which is highly likely given the overall quality of the sword.
The sword handles immaculately as do all weapons sold at www.shastaragar.com possessing fantastic balance. This sword has a unique characteristic in that it can be utilised from Kurma Yudhan through to the higher Yudhans. A very versatile sword which would have been kept by the owner as a daily "personal sword".
The sword comes with a well made leather scabbard. However the buyer may get a custom scabbard made if desired. Please contact us on shastaragar@gmail.com to request a quote.
Note to customers: We are aiming to re-educate our customers who are seeking high quality fighting weapons. High end fighting swords are rarely embellished with gold / silver; they are designed to be highly functional and practical. It takes a Sanatan Shastar Vidiya practitioner to understand what qualifies as a top class, good, average, or bad weapon.
